Frequently asked questions
Do I need a permit to remove aquatic weeds from my shoreline?
Some bodies of water in the state are exempt from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) permitting rules; many are not. Some counties and municipalities have their own permitting requirements in addition to those mandated by FWC. If your property requires a permit to remove aquatic plants, we will walk you through the application process.
Which areas do you service?
We are based in the Groveland/Clermont area and service all of Lake and Sumter Counties.
How quickly can you start?
Usually within 2 to 7 days depending on permit needs.
Are herbicides safe?
Yes. We use approved aquatic herbicides applied by licensed professionals.
Do you offer a maintenance plan?
Yes. Aquatic growth doesn’t stop after one cleanup. To prevent weeds from taking over again, we offer maintenance plans designed to keep your shoreline under control throughout the growing season. We’ll review maintenance options during your inspection and help you decide what level of ongoing care makes the most sense for your property.
How much does it cost to clear my waterfront view?
The price for lake clearing and monthly maintenance usually depends on square footage, plant type/density, and ease of access.
How quickly does vegetation re-grow after being removed?
Aquatic plants will grow back after being removed, much like your lawn. Regular maintenance is necessary for long-term clarity. Each property is unique and re-growth will occur at different rates depending upon weather, soil and water composition, and type of vegetation present.
How often do I need to have my lakefront cleared?
That depends on how clear you want your view to be and on your budget constraints. Generally, we recommend an initial clearing followed by ongoing monthly maintenance. This tends to be the best value balancing a hassle-free view with cost savings over time.
What is the best time of year to remove aquatic weeds?
Aquatic vegetation can be effectively managed throughout the year, but in Central Florida, early spring (March/April) is ideal because weeds are actively growing but haven’t become too large and dense yet. Late fall is the second best time to treat aquatic weeds, before they go dormant for the winter. Summer works as well!
Do I need to be home when the service is performed?
No. We will coordinate with you beforehand to make sure you are aware of the schedule and answer any questions you may have and to set clear expectations.
How much does it cost to apply for an aquatic plant removal permit from the FWC?
It is absolutely free.
How long do permits take to be granted?
FWC tries to process applications in 30 days, but in rare cases it can take up to 90 days.
How long is a permit good for?
A permit remains in effect for 3 years from date of issue. It is easy to renew at the end of those 3 years.
What is the difference between native and invasive plants in my lake?
We have compiled a guide to help you identify some of the most common native/invasive species in the Central Florida area. It is available HERE.
Are you licensed and insured in Florida to perform this type of work?
Yes. You can have peace of mind knowing we are also certified commercial herbicide applicators in the State of Florida.
